The Deptford Players present

The Music Cure
and
How He Lied to Her Husband
by
George Bernard Shaw
at the Midtown International Theatre Festival

Stephanie Stone (left) and Lorree True (right) portray quintessential Shavian women

Although Shaw is acclaimed as one of the greatest English language playwrights of all time, he is usually remembered for a mere handful of full-length plays, and the bulk of his work, and virtually all of his one act plays are forgotten. It is true that some of the shorter plays do not achieve the magnitude of his masterpieces, and, indeed, a few read rather more like polemics than plays, but there are also some rare gems hidden in the midst of the torrent of words. Small comic jewels dot the flood of Shaw's prose, and we have selected these two to present.
-- Jeff Berry, July 2000

The Shaw One Acts were part of the Midtown Internation Theatre Festival, and allowed the Deptford Players to reach out to a larger audience than we had been previously reaching; cross-pollination is one of the great advantages of a festival appearence.

We were reviewed twice, that we know of, and gratified to find that both were favorable.

"a top-flight production of two seldom seen one-act plays." says Julie Halpern of the off-off-Broadway review.

"The Deptford Players seem to know what they are doing," writes Les Gutman of CurtainUp
